Why Begin a Freelance Editing Career at 55? That's What I've Asked Myself, Repeatedly.
I'll admit to being the person who notices spelling and punctuation errors, raises an eyebrow at inconsistency, and loves a good outline. That person can be annoying—right up until you need them to correct your grammar or check your citations. From graduating college with a telecommunications degree and practicing law for twenty-five years to proofreading social media marketing and copyediting romance novels, the common thread has been editing.

Luckily, I'm surrounded by talented friends and family for whom I've been able to put my annoying habit to use part time by helping them to bring their big ideas and dream projects to life. I've developed a book on bedmaking; copyedited romance novels; and written and proofread corporate and marketing materials for a retail website. At the age of 55, I decided it was time to transition to freelance editing full time.
